Description

Product Introduction

I’ve deployed these modules in chemical plants where you need to measure everything from 4-20 mA pressure transmitters to Type K thermocouples on the same rack. The GE IC695ALG600 is an eight-channel universal analog input module for PACSystem RX3i systems that handles voltage, current, RTD, thermocouple, and resistance signals in any combination .This unit eliminates the need for separate specialized modules—you can mix signal types channel by channel. It offers six hardware filter frequencies (8 Hz to 1000 Hz) and supports nine thermocouple types plus multiple RTD standards .

Quality Control Process (SOP Transparency)

Universal analog modules fail when you least expect—usually during a batch process with mixed signal types. Here’s our verification sequence.

  1. Incoming Verification: Cross-reference part number against Emerson’s compatibility matrix. Check for GE Intelligent Platforms or Emerson Automation branding. Inspect connector pins for gold plating integrity—corrosion here means moisture exposure.
  2. Live Functional Test: Install in test RX3i rack with CPE400 CPU. Configure channels for mixed signal types using Proficy Machine Edition 5.0 SP1A or later. Apply calibrated signals from Fluke 725S process calibrator: 4-20 mA, 0-10 V, Type K thermocouple simulation. Verify measurement accuracy across all ranges.
  3. Electrical Parameter Test: Measure insulation resistance at 500 V between adjacent channels (>100 MΩ). Verify channel-to-ground isolation withstands 1500 VAC for 60 seconds. Check cold junction compensation accuracy with temperature chamber.
  4. Firmware Verification: Read firmware version via Ethernet Station Manager—requires RX3i CPU firmware 2.80 or later. Document that no physical jumpers exist (it’s all software configured). Photograph all status LED patterns during normal operation.
  5. Final QC & Packaging: Inspector signs off after confirming CE/UL/ATEX markings. Seal in anti-static bag with desiccant. Bubble wrap and carton with QC label showing calibration date and multi-signal verification.

Replacement Pitfall Guide (Field Engineer’s Warnings)

The IC695ALG600’s flexibility is its strength and weakness. Keep these five points in mind and you’ll eliminate roughly 90% of rework.

  1. ❗ Software Configuration Required: Every channel needs individual configuration in PME. Case: An engineer swapped modules without restoring configuration—all eight channels defaulted to 4-20 mA, rendering thermocouple inputs useless.
  2. ❗ Filter Frequency Selection: Six hardware filter options affect response time and noise rejection. For flow control, I use 40 Hz; for temperature, 8 Hz. Wrong filter selection causes either noisy readings or sluggish response.
  3. ❗ Terminal Block Compatibility: Requires specific removable terminal blocks—TBB032, TBB132, TBS032, or TBS132. Standard 90-30 terminal blocks physically fit but won’t make proper contact with the module’s connector pins.
  4. ❗ Cold Junction Compensation: Only two CJC channels for eight inputs. Group thermocouples with similar ambient conditions. I’ve seen 5°C errors from placing one CJC near a heat source.
  5. ❗ Firmware Requirements: Needs RX3i CPU firmware 2.80 (Build ID 43A1) or later. Older controllers won’t recognize the module—check firmware before installation.
